Furniture Share's Feeding Our Future Program provides healthy food boxes to families and individuals in need. Food boxes filled with healthy fruits, vegetables, and meats are available for delivery or a scheduled pick-up. We also provide dining tables with chairs, simple recipes with 5 items or less, conversational starter tips to encourage healthy meals, and easy mealtime steps to improve health and family conversations.
Many parents want to connect with their children but don't know how, so we are giving them this tool that will help them talk and be engaged with their children during mealtimes. These conversation starters are open-ended questions to get their children talking. Young children who participate in family meals have increased vocabulary and reading skills. This project is designed to improve health, education, and family stability along with a better performance at school, the workplace, and the community.
This project helps to increase healthier eating habits, helps give children the ability to do well in school, and increases vocabulary. In addition to these outcomes, teenagers who eat dinner with their parents frequently are less likely to smoke cigarettes or marijuana and less likely to consume alcohol.
